Principal

John Schnell is an instructor of trumpet at the University of Southern Maine. A native of Florida, he has a Bachelor of Music degree from Florida State University and a master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory. His major teachers have been Armando Ghitalla, Roger Voisin, and William Vacchiano.

Mr. Schnell has an extensive performance background. He is currently Principal Trumpet with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Lyric Opera Company, and is Alternate Trumpet with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In addition he has performed with the Boston Concert Opera Company, the Boston Festival Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra, the Handel and Haydn Society, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Maine Opera Association Orchestra, the Des Moines Metropolitan Summer Opera Orchestra, and the Beethovenhalle Orchestra in Bonn, Germany.

Mr. Schnell is active as a solo recitalist, and presents trumpet clinics throughout New England.
